The Nicamaka "Mosquito Nets for Nicaragua Campaign" is to save lives by preventing malaria in the poorer parts of Nicaragua, where effective window screens are lacking. The bed mosquito net is arguably the most cost-effective way to prevent malaria and encephalitis transmission. We at Nicamaka have a long history of cooperation with Nicaragua and the chance to help families in need of basic protection is one that we are excited to be a part of.
One bed net costs just $10 to buy and deliver to individuals in need. One bed net can fit up to a Queen size bed and can safely give a family about four years or serious protection. Each net will be equiped with a installation kit, expanable metal hoop and enough neeting to completely cover any bed, or sleep area, giving the user total ptrotection from disease-spreading mosquitoes and other insects. Studies show that use of insecticide-treated bed nets can reduce transmission as much as 90% in areas with high coverage rates. |
Bed nets prevent malaria transmission by creating a protective barrier against mosquitoes at night, when the vast majority of transmissions occur. The African malaria mosquitoes generally bite late at night or early morning, between 10:00 p.m. and 4:00 a.m. A bed net is usually hung above the center of a bed or sleeping space so that it completely covers the sleeping person.
All of our donations will be sent and distributed through the Jessie F. Ricardson Foundation. For every donation of $10, one queen-sized bed mosquito net will be donated to the Jessie F. Ricardson Foundation for distribution into Nicaragua - a $45 retail value.
Grants and class projects are welcome and please call 866-377-1224 for more details of how to donate or organize a drive. Help us help those in need. All donations are tax exempt and each contributor will receive a letter, thanking them for their contribution.
